Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a mobile developer to own and shape end-to-end mobile products. You will work across native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and Flutter, taking products from early thinking through development, release, and ongoing support.

Deep hands-on capability in at least one stack and strong collaboration with design and client stakeholders are essential. The role offers flexibility in level, with opportunities to influence architecture, mentoring, and pragmatic decisions that balance

Qualifications

• Commercial experience building mobile apps that shipped to users
• Strong native iOS with Swift/SwiftUI and/or Flutter/Dart experience
• Experience across the other mobile stack
• Understanding of mobile architecture, state management and APIs
• Experience with testing, releases and production support
• Awareness of security, privacy, accessibility and performance
• Ability to work through ambiguity and communicate well with both technical and non-technical teammates

About the role

This one has a bit of flexibility around level.

You could be a strong intermediate developer ready to take on more ownership, or an experienced Senior who enjoys shaping technical decisions and helping others around them.

The important part is your mobile experience.

You’ll be working across both native iOS and Flutter, taking products from early technical thinking through development, release and ongoing support. You don’t need to be equally strong in both; they’re looking for deep commercial experience in at least one and genuine hands-on capability in the other.

What you’ll be doing

• Building and maintaining production mobile applications using Swift/SwiftUI and Flutter/Dart
• Working closely with designers to turn great product experiences into well-structured software
• Making pragmatic decisions around native vs cross-platform approaches
• Planning and estimating work and surfacing technical risks early
• Writing automated tests and investigating production issues
• Supporting CI/CD and App Store releases
• Working directly with clients and explaining technical options and trade-offs without overcomplicating them
• Reviewing code and contributing to better mobile engineering practices across the team
• Using AI-assisted development where it genuinely improves the work, while still owning and validating what gets shipped

What we’re looking for

You’ll have commercial experience building mobile applications that have actually made it into users’ hands.

Ideally you’ll bring:

• Strong native iOS experience with Swift/SwiftUI and/or strong Flutter/Dart experience
• Practical experience working across the other mobile stack
• A good understanding of mobile architecture, state management and APIs
• Experience with testing, releases and the realities of supporting production mobile apps
• Good judgement around quality, scope and effort
• An understanding of security, privacy, accessibility and performance
• The confidence to work through ambiguity rather than needing a perfectly defined brief
• Strong communication and the ability to work closely with technical and non-technical people

Experience with UIKit, platform channels, Fastlane, Xcode Cloud, Codemagic, App Store Connect, TestFlight or Google Play Console would all be useful, but none are individually essential.

The level

At the intermediate end, you’ll be comfortable owning features and workstreams, making good technical decisions and knowing when to pull someone else in.

At Senior level, you’ll likely be contributing more heavily to architecture, navigating ambiguity, mentoring others and helping clients make good technical decisions.

They care far more about evidence of ownership and good judgement than a particular number of years on your CV.
