Job summary

The Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui in Auckland, North Island, is seeking an experienced Investigations Manager to lead our Investigations team and safeguard the integrity of sport and recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand.

You will manage complex investigations under the relevant acts and codes, mentor the team, and deliver thorough, fair, and well-evidenced conclusions for decision makers. This role demands leadership, empathy, and safeguarding judgement.

The Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui is responsible for leading and promoting integrity across all levels of sport and recreation. We set standards, build sector capability, investigate serious integrity concerns, and work alongside participants and organisations to prevent harm. Our work is grounded in te Tiriti o Waitangi and public service values.

We are looking for an experienced and highly capable Investigations Manager to lead our Investigations team. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in protecting the safety and fairness of sport and recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand, by leading investigations into threats to integrity including anti-doping rule violations, competition manipulation and interpersonal harm such as bullying, abuse, violence and discrimination.

As the leader of our investigative function, you’ll lead a team through a range of investigative processes, keeping cases moving through the team, while ensuring the team is supported to perform their best work.

As our Investigations Manager, you will lead and manage the Investigations team, ensuring investigations under the Integrity Sport and Recreation Act 2023, the Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation and the World Anti-doping Code are thorough, fair, impartial and delivered to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the investigations team, setting the standard for thoroughness, fairness, sequencing and progress of all matters.
  • Overseeing the assignment, and end-to-end progress of investigations across the team.
  • Leading and guiding the team to conduct complex investigations, including evidence gathering, analysis, and investigative interviews.
  • Preparing clear investigation and progress reports that identify risks or matters of concern and translate them into practical recommendations for decision makers.
  • Identifying gaps in investigation processes and practise and leading the refinement and embedding of improved processes.
  • Applying relevant legislative and technical detail of each matter to investigation strategy.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with government agencies, sport and recreation organisations and domestic and international integrity partners.
  • Maintaining team standards that protect the confidentiality and privacy of those involved in investigations.
  • Mentoring and developing the capability of the Investigations team.
  • Applying empathy and safeguarding knowledge appropriately throughout the investigation process.

You’re a superb investigations leader with extensive experience in enforcement or regulatory environments. You can lead and develop a capable team, manage investigation workflows and case progress, and provide sound guidance on complex matters. You are an exceptional writer who produces clear, well-evidenced reports and practical recommendations for decision makers. You bring empathy, sound safeguarding judgement, and the ability to quickly understand and apply relevant legislation and technical subject matter.

You'll bring:

  • Extensive and varied investigations experience in enforcement or regulatory environments.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including supporting, developing and enabling a team to perform at its best.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality investigation and progress reports.
  • Cultural competence and an understanding of tikanga Māori and te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • A genuine commitment to safe and fair sport and recreation.
  • Relevant qualifications e.g. detective designation, legal or regulatory practice certificates or equivalent will be an advantage.
