Job summary

Motion NZ in Auckland is seeking an Inventory Control Lead to own stock integrity at the new East Tamaki Distribution Centre. You will drive inventory accuracy and DC administration with support from a Stock Controller.

The role requires hands-on experience in inventory management, ERP/WMS exposure, strong Excel skills, and leadership to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders. This is a pivotal, growth-focused position as the company moves into a brand-new facility.

Qualifications

  • Experience in inventory control within a distribution or warehouse environment.
  • Strong knowledge of demand planning, replenishment and working capital management.
  • Experience with ERP and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement warehouse zone strategies to maximise pick efficiency.
  • Monitor DC utilisation and reconfigure storage profiles for seasonal or volume shifts.
  • Analyse SKU velocities to keep high-demand stock optimally positioned.
  • Drive inventory accuracy through cycle counting and stocktake governance.
  • Lead root cause analysis of discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Own DC administration including receipting, adjustments, transfers, claims and reporting.
  • Build and maintain reporting dashboards covering service levels, inventory turns and shrinkage.
  • Support ERP migration and drive continuous improvement across the DC.

About the company

Motion NZ is a well-established distributor of industrial and engineering products with a long-standing reputation across the New Zealand market, from the top of the North to the bottom of the South. As part of its next chapter, the business has invested in a brand new, purpose-built Distribution Centre which they will be moving to imminently. It’s an exciting time at Motion NZ with a lot of positive change happening and further growth right around the corner.

The role

The Inventory Control Lead will own the optimisation and integrity of all stock within Motion NZ's East Tamaki Distribution Centre. Reporting to the DC Operations Manager, you'll drive inventory accuracy and DC administration, with the help of a Stock Controller, as the business settles into their brand-new facility. This is a crucial role within the DC and requires someone who knows and loves inventory management, and collaborating with a number of stakeholders.

  • High attention to detail and strong process discipline
  • Commercially aware with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Understanding of industrial distribution advantageous
