Caliber Design Ltd in New Zealand seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a diverse practice. The role involves mechanical design, analysis and project engineering, working embedded within client teams on engineering projects.
The position offers permanent, full-time employment with overtime pay and KiwiSaver; hybrid working is available and development is a priority with internal progression paths.
Caliber Design is an engineering consultancy; our work spans a diverse range of industries, including industrial machinery, aerospace, marine, medical technology, manufacturing and major industrial projects. Alongside mechanical design, analysis and project engineering, we have a growing Automation, Controls & Electrical team.
We are building Caliber into a place where engineers can do the best work of their careers.
That means interesting engineering, people you enjoy working with, serious investment in your development and being paid well, including overtime. We are growing our team and looking for experienced mechanical engineers who want to grow with us.
And you don’t just have to take our word for it. We are finalists in the Best Places to Work Awards in both the Small & Medium-Sized Businesses and AI & Innovation categories.
The more capable our engineers become, the more we can achieve together. We want you to learn, build your experience and take on greater responsibility. Investing in our people is how we deliver better engineering for our clients.
Our senior management team and regional managers have progressed from engineering roles, and every Team Lead has been promoted internally. We’re committed to growing from within.
We back that commitment with:
A structured three-year Learning & Development programme, covering engineering design, analysis, project delivery, communication, product development and commercialisation.
A new Senior Engineer pathway, recognising technical capability, judgement and versatility, with progression for engineers who want to stay focused on engineering.
We believe people do their best work when they are enjoying it. Culture is central to how we run Caliber.
We value engineers who share what they know, ask good questions and help each other solve problems. Technical sessions, regular team catchups and social events are part of how we learn together and build relationships.
Our leadership team is hands‑on and approachable. They understand the work because they have done it themselves.
Our delivery model is to work on secondment, embedded directly within client’s teams, because we believe this is the best way to deliver engineering projects.
Our engineers are employed on a permanent, full‑time basis.
You will be paid for every hour you work, with time‑and‑a‑half for every hour above 40 each week, plus KiwiSaver.
Typical annual‑equivalent earnings are $100,000–$130,000 including overtime, depending on experience and hours worked.
You will also receive medical, life and total permanent disability insurance after six months, access to an employee assistance programme, and flexible or hybrid working where project and client requirements allow.
For this role, we are looking for:
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and five or more years’ industry experience in complex machine design.
Strong SolidWorks or Inventor capability, sound engineering fundamentals and an understanding of how equipment is manufactured and operates.
Clear communication, practical judgement and an enthusiasm for learning, contributing and working with others.
FEA and engineering analysis experience is valuable, as is project engineering experience on large industrial sites.
Our ambition is to become the world’s most versatile and sought‑after engineering team. We are building that team by investing in the people who join us.
