Walker Engineering Consultants is a fast-growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy providing structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services across Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, the Waikato and wider New Zealand. Our projects span residential, commercial, industrial and civil infrastructure work, including bridges, retaining structures, foundations and general civil works. We specialise in structural and geotechnical designs, while also providing general civil engineering services. Based in Takapuna, Auckland, the practice has been operating since January 2022 and is focused on delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions and responsive service that support the development, resilience and wellbeing of our communities.
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our structural team, working directly with two experienced Chartered Professional Engineers on a varied mix of residential, commercial, industrial and bridge projects. The role covers structural analysis and design, general engineering reporting, coordination with clients and project teams, drawing reviews, carrying out design documentation, and construction monitoring, with the opportunity to take ownership of routine projects and senior support available when needed. Typical clients include councils, residential and industrial developers, builders, architects and other consultants.
The ideal candidate will have:
A relevant civil or structural engineering degree (BE or BEngTech), ideally Washington Accord recognised
3–6 years of structural engineering design/consultancy experience, ideally at least 1 year in NZ.
Sound knowledge of NZ structural standards, design practices and building consent requirements
Practical experience carrying out site inspections and construction monitoring
Experience designing with common structural materials such as timber, steel and reinforced concrete.
Strong technical, analytical and report-writing skills
Sound engineering judgement, critical-thinking skills, and a practical, detail-focused approach to problem-solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors and other consultants
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
The right to work in New Zealand as a citizen, permanent resident or holder of a long-term work visa
Based in Auckland or willing to relocate
