Build production software. Grow towards Senior Developer.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Work arrangement: Full-time and fully on-site
Reports to: Senior Developers and Technical Leads
Works with: Projects Team, Models Team and AI Team
This role is designed to build your capability towards Senior Developer. Over time, you may develop along a product-focused or consulting-focused path, shaped by your strengths, preference, sustained performance, business needs and available opportunities.
Join the Products Department as an Intermediate Software Developer and contribute to reliable, maintainable software used in real business environments. You will deliver well-defined work with guidance from Senior Developers and Technical Leads, while steadily increasing your technical ownership, cross-team influence and client-facing capability.
You will work closely with the Projects Team, Models Team and AI Team to turn requirements and specialist knowledge into practical software. This position suits someone who wants to remain hands‑on while building towards future team leadership and broader responsibility.
Design, build, test and maintain production software using Python, JavaScript, SQL and frontend technologies.
Work with the Projects Team, Models Team and AI Team to clarify requirements, coordinate interfaces and dependencies, estimate work and make practical technical trade-offs.
Develop and integrate application components, APIs, user interfaces and data access while following established architecture and engineering practices.
Contribute to code reviews, automated testing, technical documentation and shared engineering standards.
Investigate defects and production issues using evidence, communicate impact clearly and help prevent recurrence.
Improve software reliability, security, performance and maintainability where it supports the product and its users.
Communicate progress, risks and technical decisions clearly in English and Mandarin for the relevant audience.
Build client‑facing and leadership capability by engaging with client‑facing colleagues, coordinating small pieces of work, sharing knowledge and supporting teammates.
Three to five years of relevant commercial software-development experience.
Hands-on commercial experience with Python, JavaScript and SQL.
Commercial frontend-development experience. React is preferred, but another frontend framework or approach is accepted.
Commercial experience with a public-cloud platform. Azure is preferred; relevant AWS or Alibaba Cloud experience is accepted.
The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Mandarin in work-related situations.
Evidence of personally delivering software used in a real environment, including the ability to explain your decisions, trade-offs, testing approach and results.
A practical approach to code quality, testing, debugging, maintainability and secure development.
The ability to collaborate across teams, clarify ambiguity, communicate risks and follow through on commitments.
Genuine interest in growing towards client‑facing responsibility, team leadership and a future Senior Developer role. Existing formal management experience is not required.
Current eligibility to work in New Zealand and availability to work full-time, fully on-site at the Auckland office.
The following will strengthen an application, but none is mandatory:
React experience.
Deeper Azure experience.
Event-driven system development using messaging, queues, streams or publish/subscribe patterns.
AI or modelling skills, including developing or integrating AI-enabled features or evaluating model behaviour.
Data-operations or data-platform experience, such as pipelines, ETL/ELT, orchestration, data quality, monitoring, warehouses/lakehouses or platform services.
Experience using AI coding tools on a software-development project and checking generated output through review and testing. Commercial, personal, open-source and side projects all count.
You will develop through increasingly complex delivery, design input, code review, client‑facing exposure, cross-team coordination and opportunities to support others. Your longer-term direction may become more product-focused or consulting-focused as your strengths and preferences become clearer. Progression is based on demonstrated capability, sustained performance, business needs and available opportunities; no fixed promotion timeline is implied.
