Job summary

Ventia is seeking a skilled Inside Plant Technician to install, commission, test and maintain communications and power systems that support essential network operations. The role spans Waikato and Bay of Plenty, offering hands-on work with low-voltage systems and fibre/copper cabling.

You will perform installation, testing, commissioning and fault finding, with emphasis on safety and collaboration in critical infrastructure environments.

Qualifications

• Experience in installation and commissioning of low-voltage power systems.
• Ability to test and commission communications and power equipment.
• Hands-on fibre splicing and copper cabling experience.
• Strong problem-solving and safety-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing.
• Deploy and commission transmission systems (OTN, MPLS, SDH, PDH).
• Test and commission inside plant communications equipment.
• Fault find and troubleshoot across communications and DC power systems.
• Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
• Interpret and update technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience in working at heights is an advantage.
• Electrical registration is an advantage.

Ventia is seeking skilled Communication Technicians – Inside Plant to support critical infrastructure across the power network. This role focuses on low voltage power systems and communications equipment within controlled environments. This role will be working across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty

About the Role

As an Inside Plant Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of communications and power systems that support essential network operations.

Your day-to-day will include

• Installation and commissioning of low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and maintenance
• Deployment and commissioning of transmission systems (OTN, MPLS, SDH, PDH)
• Testing and commissioning of inside plant communications equipment
• Fault finding and troubleshooting across communications and DC power systems
• Installation, splicing, and termination of copper and fibre optic cabling
• Interpretation and updating of technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics
• Experience in Working at heights will be an advantage
• Electrical registration will be an advantage.

About You

You’ll be a technically capable and safety-focused professional with experience in critical infrastructure, power, or telecommunications environments.

Additionally, you’ll bring

• Experience with low voltage power plant installation and commissioning
• Knowledge of battery systems and testing procedures
• Exposure to protection systems (desirable)
• Hands-on experience with fibre splicing and installation work
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic capability
• Good physical fitness and ability to perform ladder work
• A collaborative approach and commitment to safety
