Job summary

Ventia is seeking skilled Communication Technicians – Inside Plant to support critical infrastructure across the power network. This role focuses on low voltage power systems and communications equipment within controlled environments.

This role will be working across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty As an Inside Plant Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of communications and power systems that support essential network operations.

Qualifications

• Experience with low voltage power plant installation and commissioning.
• Knowledge of battery systems and testing procedures.
• Hands-on fibre splicing and installation work.
• Strong focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Installation and commissioning of low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and maintenance.
• Deployment and commissioning of transmission systems (OTN, MPLS, SDH, PDH).
• Testing and commissioning of inside plant communications equipment.
• Fault finding and troubleshooting across communications and DC power systems.
• Installation, splicing, and termination of copper and fibre optic cabling.
• Interpreting and updating technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience in working at heights will be an advantage.
• Electrical registration will be an advantage.

About the Role

About You

You’ll be a technically capable and safety-focused professional with experience in critical infrastructure, power, or telecommunications environments.

Additionally, you’ll bring:

• Experience with low voltage power plant installation and commissioning
• Knowledge of battery systems and testing procedures
• Exposure to protection systems (desirable)
• Hands-on experience with fibre splicing and installation work
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic capability
• Good physical fitness and ability to perform ladder work
• A collaborative approach and commitment to safety
