Job summary

Ventia in Wellington, New Zealand, invites motivated individuals to join as Transmission Line Mechanic Trainees. Earn while you learn with paid on-the-job training and hands-on experience maintaining and repairing high-voltage transmission lines.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Full Class 1 Driver Licence (preferred but not essential)

Responsibilities

What Does a Transmission Line Mechanic Do?

Transmission Line Mechanics are responsible for constructing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the high-voltage transmission lines that carry electricity throughout New Zealand.

As a trainee, you'll work alongside experienced professionals who will teach you the technical skills needed to work on transmission towers and associated infrastructure. Over time, you'll gain the knowledge and experience to work safely at height, use specialist equipment, and contribute to essential projects that help power homes, businesses, and communities.

This is not your typical Monday-to-Friday office job. You'll be part of a team working in a variety of environments, from remote rural locations and farmland to hills, forests, and rugged terrain.

What to Expect

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, adventure, and working outdoors. You can expect to:

  • Travel to project sites throughout the region and across New Zealand when required
  • Spend periods working away from home, with accommodation and allowances provided where applicable
  • Work in remote and rural environments, often accessing transmission towers located off the beaten track
  • Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions, including wind, rain, heat, and cold
  • Climb towers and work at height while following industry-leading safety procedures
