Job summary

Sims Metal in New Zealand is seeking an experienced EHS Advisor to join our NZ team and drive a proactive safety culture across operations. You’ll partner with frontline teams, support policy deployment, and lead investigations to prevent incidents.

Reporting to the Regional EHS Partner - NZ, you’ll travel within New Zealand, support training, audits, and risk assessments, and help ensure workers go home safely every day.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in EHS or related discipline (or higher).
• Experience in high-risk/industrial environments with health, safety and environmental outcomes.
• Proven incident and accident investigation experience.
• Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel within New Zealand.
• Experience managing claims and return-to-work processes under the ACC (2001).

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS policy, standards and procedures.
• Work with front-line teams to understand how work is done and help them develop realistic procedures and goals.
• Conduct analysis from EHS data to facilitate management decision-making.
• Assist with the use of EHS tools such as risk assessment and critical control verification.
• Participate in internal and external audits and provide guidance on corrective actions.
• Support the facilitation of EHS training.
• Participate in local EHS committees and investigations of non-conformances.
• Provide insight on process hazards and risk ratings for incidents and JSEA.
• Manage workers’ compensation claims and the return-to-work process.
• Deliver training, coaching, and guidance to employees and management teams.
