Job summary

Qualifications

• Relevant Diploma qualification or higher in education or psychology.
• Experience with children and young people with learning and behavioural needs.
• Experience supporting education professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across diverse settings.
• Ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
• Integrate Te Ao Māori and use knowledge to strengthen cultural solutions for the learner and whānau.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team around the child, including educators, parents, caregivers and whānau, to enhance understanding about the child and their behaviours.
• Develop, implement, and monitor an effective personalised learning plan.
• Help adults around the child make changes to the learning environment to manage behaviour and improve safety.
• Support the child to develop pro-social behaviours and improve participation, wellbeing and learning outcomes.
• Facilitate access to wider services and supports (speech and language therapy, local agencies) as needed.
• Enhance inclusive practices in schools and other educational settings.
