Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children invites qualified social workers to join our National Contact Centre in Auckland on a fixed-term secondment ending November 2027. You will engage with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau, conduct assessments, develop intervention plans and collaborate with agencies to improve outcomes.

We offer a salary from $81,206 to $97,557 per year, depending on experience, with tenure progression and 23 days annual leave (25 after 5 years pro-rated).

Qualifications

• Full registration with New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) or able to register.
• A social worker qualification recognised by the SWRB.
• Understanding of cross-cultural practices; knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.
• A full, clean, current driver’s licence.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated resilience, problem solving and flexibility.
• Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills with excellent report writing.

Responsibilities

• Meet with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to listen to their needs and gather information.
• Conduct assessments of need and formulating intensive intervention plans.
• Participate in hui-ā-whānau, family group conferences and partner with other agencies, community groups and iwi to improve outcomes.
