Job summary

Contact Energy Ltd is seeking a Generation Technician for their Bay of Plenty hydro schemes. The role covers electrical plant, control and protection systems, and automated operations, with on-site duties and a rostered on-call component.

The successful candidate will have a relevant trade certificate, electrical background, and the ability to diagnose faults while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance. Travel between sites is required.

Qualifications

• Strong electrical foundation and hands‑on experience with industrial plant and systems.
• Experience with control systems is important for this role.
• Hydro generation experience is valuable but transferable from power gen or heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, inspections and condition monitoring to support safe operation of generation assets.
• Investigate faults, diagnose plant and equipment issues, and coordinate rectification work.
• Work with electrical plant, control and protection systems and support automated operations when required.
• Operate plant in line with safety rules and competency requirements.
• Plan and complete scheme, asset and outage work, including modifications and enhancements.
• Monitor plant condition and respond to alarms, faults and emergency maintenance.
• Maintain accurate operation and maintenance records and update docs.
