Job summary

Contact Energy is seeking a Generation Technician for our Bay of Plenty hydro schemes. Based at Ruahihi, you’ll work across Kaimai and Matahina plants, maintaining and diagnosing electrical plant, control and protection systems to keep renewable electricity flowing.

You’ll join a 24-hour on-call environment, with travel between sites and a focus on safety, documentation and teamwork with regional contractors and Contact teams. We value practical expertise and commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• Electrical trade background with practical control systems experience.
• Experience maintaining and operating plant in power generation or heavy industry.
• Ability to diagnose faults methodically and implement practical solutions.
• Understanding of maintenance practices and condition monitoring.
• Strong reading and updating of technical and operational documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, inspections and condition monitoring.
• Investigate faults, diagnose issues and coordinate rectification.
• Work with electrical plant, control and protection systems.
• Operate plant in line with safety rules and competency requirements.
• Plan and complete scheme, asset and outage work including modifications.
• Monitor plant condition and respond to alarms and emergencies.
• Maintain accurate operational, maintenance and plant history records.
• Collaborate with regional team, contractors and other Contact teams.
• Adhere to environmental consents and safety rules.
• Remain onsite during adverse weather or emergencies when required.
