Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust is seeking an experienced and pragmatic Human Resources Professional to lead and enable its HR function from East Tāmaki.
This is a sole‑charge generalist role with real breadth – partnering with leaders, navigating complex people matters and strengthening consistent, practical HR practice across the organisation.
Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust, also known as Te Matapuna o te Ora, is the social services entity of Ngāti Kahu. We deliver health, social and community services to whānau in a way that reflects the values, tikanga and aspirations of our wider iwi.
Our kaupapa works alongside whānau from Tāmaki Makaurau to the Far North to support them to achieve their aspirations.

As HR Manager, you’ll take ownership of the HR function across Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust, providing both strategic and operational support across the employee lifecycle.
Working closely with the COO, CEO, CFO and Kaiwhakahaere, you’ll be a trusted advisor to leaders – providing practical advice, helping navigate complex people matters and building their confidence and capability to lead their teams well.
You’ll be involved in:
providing trusted, practical HR advice and building manager capability
managing employee relations matters, including performance, disciplinary and grievance processes
leading or coordinating workplace investigations and organisational change
supporting workforce planning, remuneration and performance management
leading recruitment, onboarding and induction
developing and maintaining effective HR policies, systems and people practices
supporting a positive, values‑based culture and kaimahi wellbeing
managing union relationships and collective agreement obligations, where applicable.
At the heart of the role is the ability to balance people, risk and organisational needs – exercising sound judgement, providing clear advice and knowing when specialist support is required.
You’ll be an experienced HR generalist who enjoys breadth, works confidently and autonomously, and is comfortable being the person leaders turn to for HR advice.
You may already be an HR Manager, or you could be a strong Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner ready to take ownership of a broader HR function.
You’ll bring:
at least five years’ broad generalist HR experience at senior advisor or HR management level
strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice
solid employee relations capability, including complex performance, disciplinary and grievance matters
an understanding of workplace investigations and natural justice
experience supporting organisational change
experience across broader HR activities such as workforce planning, remuneration, performance management, policy and systems
sound judgement and the ability to build trusted relationships with leaders and kaimahi.
Experience operating autonomously or in a sole‑charge HR environment would be valuable, as would experience with a geographically dispersed or multi‑service workforce, unions and collective agreements.
You’ll also be comfortable working within a kaupapa Māori environment and bring genuine respect for Ngāti Kahu values, tikanga and the whānau and communities we serve.
