Job summary

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years’ experience as an analytics or report writing specialist or in a similar role.
  • Registration as an accredited health & safety professional with a HASANZ organisation such as NZISM.
  • Proficiency in Power BI with strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the oversight and maintenance of HSW data integrity through data validation and quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used for reporting and analysis.
  • Define, maintain, and govern HSW data standards, definitions, and validation rules across systems to ensure data consistency, quality, and integrity.
  • Support audit readiness by ensuring HSW data is accurate and traceable, with appropriate controls and documentation in place to support reporting integrity, compliance requirements, and audit activities.
  • Enable escalation of data issues, working with Business Technology and Data teams to investigate and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to support data integrity and deliver reliable reporting and insights.

Auckland Council’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team is excited to offer apermanent full-time opportunity to join our close-knit team as a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Analytics & Reporting Specialist. This is a hybrid role with3x days in the office.

This role focuses on ensuring robust quality control and oversight of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) data through rigorous data validation, quality assurance processes, and the maintenance of data integrity within Auckland Council's core HSW management system, Donesafe.

Using advanced analytics and data visualisation tools, the role identifies patterns, trends, and areas of risk, monitors organisational performance, and provides actionable insights and recommendations to support both strategic and operational decision-making.

The remuneration range for these roles are $100,000 – $112,000 depending on experience and skillset. Auckland Council's KiwiSaver contribution is additional to base salary.

Leveraging data-driven insights, this role enhances the health, safety, and overall wellbeing of Auckland Council kaimahi through the analysis of workplace incidents, HSW performance, emerging risks, trends, and employee wellbeing data.

The role utilises systems and tools such as Donesafe and Power BI to deliver meaningful analytics, reporting, and insights that support informed decision-making. Working collaboratively with Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW), Business Technology, and Data teams, the role ensures the integrity, consistency, and reliability of HSW data while developing fit-for-purpose reporting solutions that strengthen organisational performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The role also delivers high-quality reporting and actionable insights to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), governance groups, and executive committees, supporting both operational and strategic decision-making across the organisation.

Day to day you can expect to work on:

  • Lead the oversight and maintenance of HSW data integrity through data validation and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used for reporting and analysis.
  • Define, maintain, and govern HSW data standards, definitions, and validation rules across systems to ensure data consistency, quality, and integrity.
  • Support audit readiness by ensuring HSW data is accurate and traceable, with appropriate controls and documentation in place to support reporting integrity, compliance requirements, and audit activities.
  • Enable escalation of data issues, working collaboratively with Business Technology and Data teams to investigate, resolve, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to support data integrity, foster collaboration, and deliver reliable reporting and insight outcomes.

You have a deep understanding of data modelling concepts and best practices, and your strong attention to detail & analytical mindset will serve you well. You will be comfortable presenting complex data and insights clearly to a range of audiences. You understand the business impacts and complexity of changes, with the ability to critically analyse information to advise on impacts.

Knowledge of, and experience with, health and safety data and systems is desirable. Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities are essential, with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within data and translate these into actionable insights that support improved health, safety, and wellbeing outcomes. Experience working in Agile environments and applying Agile methodologies is also desirable.
