Job summary

Rocket Lab in Auckland, NZ seeks a HITL Engineer I to design, maintain, and operate hardware-in-the-loop avionic test systems supporting Production, Electron and Neutron teams. You will develop tools to automate HITL operations, run flight vehicle simulations, and produce precise documentation and test analyses.

Requirements include a bachelor’s in a related field and 1+ years in hardware or software development, with Python backend experience and strong electronics knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, electronics, computer science, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • 1+ years of engineering experience with hardware or software development.
  • Practical experience with Python development for backend applications.
  • Good theoretical and/or practical understanding of electronic systems.
  • Exposure to designing and implementing test systems for electronics.
  • Understanding of sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and operate HITL avionic test systems from production to launch operations.
  • Ensure engineering rigor and documentation for HITL systems.
  • Verify functionality and performance of avionic components with other teams.
  • Develop automation tools to optimize HITL operations.
  • Operate Day of Launch simulations for specific missions.
  • Capture data from test equipment and analyze results against pass/fail criteria.
  • Troubleshoot root causes and communicate findings with internal teams and vendors.
