Job summary

Rocket Lab in Auckland is seeking an Avionics Systems and Test Engineering Intern to lead the transition of Rutherford engine harnesses to a new system by creating component libraries, system schematics, and harness CAD.

You will collaborate with mechanical design, propulsion, manufacturing, and vehicle integration, contribute to automated test rigs, and support integrated system testing of our launch vehicle in production.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s or advanced degree in an electrical engineering field.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics.
  • Self‑managed in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Hands‑on experience through project teams, labs or internships.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for aerospace and space technology.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-level schematics, harness designs and CAD models.
  • Document and implement system requirements with stakeholders.
  • Support vehicle and sub‑system configuration management.
  • Assist avionics risk analysis, FMECA.
  • Provide troubleshooting and production support.
  • Contribute to ensuring full test coverage for electrical systems.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and participate in team meetings.
