Job summary

Silver Fern Farms Limited is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator for our Takapau plant in Hawke's Bay. The role supports the Health & Safety Manager, delivering risk management, injury prevention and wellbeing initiatives. Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 11am–7pm, with occasional extra hours as needed.

You will lead risk assessments, manage incidents, and coordinate training across site teams, driving a proactive safety culture and compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Health & Safety with 2–5 years’ experience.
• Strong knowledge of risk management, incident management, and compliance.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with all staff levels.
• Data literacy with ability to turn data into insights.

Responsibilities

• Support and coordinate the implementation of H&S frameworks, policies, and processes at site level, ensuring compliance.
• Lead proactive risk assessments, hazard management, and emergency preparedness.
• Deliver training and induction sessions to upskill leaders and employees.
• Support incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and actions followed up.
• Manage reporting and insights for the plant with robust H&S data.
• Support injury management programmes and wellbeing initiatives.
• Engage with production teams to build trust and a culture of safety.

Job description

With around 900–1000 people working at our Takapau plant during peak season, health and safety is at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator to further strengthen our on-site capability, join a team of two H&S Coordinators and support the Health & Safety Manager in delivering a proactive, best-practice approach to risk management, injury prevention, and wellbeing.

The regular hours of work for this role are Monday to Friday, 11am – 7pm; occasional work outside these hours may be required from time to time.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support and coordinate the implementation of our H&S frameworks, policies, and processes at site level, ensuring company and legislative compliance.
• Lead proactive risk assessments, hazard management, and emergency preparedness, strengthening Pacific’s safety culture.
• Deliver training and induction sessions, upskilling leaders and employees in safe work practices.
• Support incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified, actions are followed up, and learnings are shared.
• Manage reporting and insights for plant, ensuring robust and meaningful H&S data.
• Support injury management programmes, rehabilitation plans, and wellbeing initiatives.
• Actively engage with production teams, leaders, and employees to build trust, visibility, and a culture of safety.

You’ll be an energetic and detail-oriented health and safety professional, passionate about improving workplace safety and wellbeing. To succeed, you will bring:

• A qualification in Health & Safety and 2–5 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, incident management, and compliance standards.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills – you’ll be comfortable engaging with everyone from frontline staff to managers.
• Confidence using databases and reporting systems, with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to influence culture and embed safe practices.
