Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a permanent Health Care Assistant to support our Intensive Care Services team in central New Zealand. You will assist our health care team by focusing on patient comfort and needs, performing delegated patient care duties and collaborating with a dynamic health care team.

The role includes minimum 24 hours per week with 8-hour shifts on a roster that includes day, night and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NZQA qualification or willingness to work towards it during employment.
• Well-developed organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Previous hospital experience desirable; training will be provided.
• Hold or be working towards Merit steps on the NZ Nurses' Organisation (NZNO) MECA.

Job description

We are seeking a permanent Health Care Assistant to join our Intensive Care Services team. In this role, you will assist our health care team by focusing on the comfort and needs of our patients. Your responsibilities will include performing delegated patient care duties, providing personal care, and supporting service activities.

Hours: Minimum 24 hours per week, including 8-hour shifts (rostered and rotating), day, night, and weekends

Our Intensive Care Unit provides tertiary (advanced) level Intensive Care for a million people in central New Zealand living in the upper south & lower north island, covering a geographic radius of 300 kilometres. We support seven public hospitals that have Intensive Care Units. To support the region we run a busy Flight Retrieval Service with the capability to provide Intensive Care-level retrievals around the clock. We have 36 beds in our ICU/HDU and care for a wide range of elective and acute patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ideally possess a Level 3 NZQA Qualification or be willing to work towards it during employment

• Hold or be working towards Merit steps on the NZ Nurses' Organisation (NZNO) Multi-Employer Collective Agreement (MECA).
