Job summary

University of Otago Library is seeking a Lead Digitisation and Digital Preservation to shape how the library captures, preserves, and shares its digital taoka for future generations. You will lead the digitisation team and work hands-on with our preservation system to ensure taoka remains protected and accessible.

Qualifications

• Experience managing digital collections and hands-on experience with digitisation workflows, preservation systems and metadata standards.
• Strong technical knowledge of file formats, archival data, storage/backup, and troubleshooting.
• Proven leadership and project management capability.
• Clear communication, documentation, and advocacy abilities across diverse stakeholders.
• Understanding mātauraka Māori and te reo would be an advantage, with commitment to learning.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects that enhance digital access and preservation.
• Oversee preparation, metadata quality, and ingestion into preservation systems.
• Provide leadership for the Library Digital Capture Unit.
• Partner with curators on digitisation and preservation programmes.
• Create and maintain fit-for-purpose policies, standards, and workflows.
• Apply mātauranga Māori to digitisation, preservation, and access.
