Job summary

Kings Recruitment Ltd Auckland is seeking an experienced tradesperson to step into a Leading Hand role in a busy engineering workshop. The job is hands-on, with duties that include coordinating the day-to-day work, guiding the trades team and maintaining safety and quality on every job.

This role suits someone from heavy fabrication, welding, fitting and turning or machining backgrounds who wants to lead from the shop floor while still doing practical trade work.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or equivalent practical experience in engineering.
• Significant experience in heavy engineering, fabrication, machining or workshop environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with heavy steel, machinery or hydraulic components.
• Strong practical problem-solving skills.
• Previous Leading Hand or supervisory experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support day-to-day activities across weld and machine shop.
• Allocate work and help prioritise jobs to meet production schedules.
• Provide practical and technical guidance to tradespeople.
• Complete hands-on trade work when required.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Ensure work is completed to the required quality and customer specifications.
• Monitor job progress and communicate issues or delays to management.
• Lead by example and maintain a productive workshop environment.
