Qualifications

• Completed RACP Basic Training, including exams for advanced trainee positions.

Responsibilities

• Join a well‑established team of seven consultant haematologists based at Palmerston North Hospital.
• Haematology service provides care to a regional population ~500,000 across Whanganui, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay.
• Inpatient care at Palmerston North Hospital with outreach clinics in Whanganui, Hawera, New Plymouth, Hastings.
• On-call duties on oncology after-hours roster (Weekdays 4.00 pm–11.00 pm).
• Appointments available for 12 to 24 months, suitable for core training or extended advanced training.

About the Role

This run is accredited for training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for both Basic and Advanced Training, and with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) for Advanced Haematology Training (laboratory and clinical).

The Role and Team

The successful applicant will join a well‑established team of seven consultant haematologists, supported by haematology registrars, based at Palmerston North Hospital.

The Haematology Service provides care to a large regional population of approximately 500,000 people, covering:

• Whanganui
• Taranaki (New Plymouth and Hawera)
• Hawke's Bay (Napier and Hastings)

Clinical Exposure

Inpatient haematology care is delivered at Palmerston North Hospital, with outreach clinics conducted in:

• Whanganui
• Hawera
• New Plymouth
• Hastings

The service provides a comprehensive range of haematology care, including:

• Coagulation and thrombosis
• Non‑malignant haematology
• Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)
• Autologous stem cell transplantation

The role includes working across:

• The haematology inpatient ward
• Haematology outpatient clinics, including:
• Local clinics
• Monthly overnight regional clinics

On‑Call Commitments

Registrars participate in the oncology after‑hours roster, which includes:

• Weekdays: 4.00 pm – 11.00 pm

On‑call duties are shared among approximately 11 oncology registrars, providing a supportive and sustainable roster.

Appointments are available for 12 to 24 months, making this role suitable for both core training progression and longer‑term advanced training requirements.

About you

• Completed RACP Basic Training, including the written and clinical examinations for advance trainee positions.
