Job summary

The Hermitage Hotel in Timaru, Canterbury invites applications for an Activities Guide role. This permanent, full-time position involves delivering unique experiences to guests, guiding in English with Mandarin or Japanese, and sharing local knowledge both on land and water where trained.

You will also support guests at the activities and retail desks to ensure a seamless experience. We offer a competitive hourly rate of NZ$26–$32, a shared housing option, and after eight weeks access to hotel

The Activities Team provide our guests several unique guided experiences including excursions on the glacial Lake Tasman, Guided Hikes in the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, Star Gazing, Planetarium, and guided Off Road Tours; and they are looking for multi-lingual guides (English/ Mandarin/Japanese), to join the team and deliver these experiences.

Our guides are responsible for using their multi-lingual capability and guiding experience to share their knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm for the area with our guests to deliver unforgettable guest experiences. No two days or trips are ever the same, and this guiding opportunity offers variety and challenge like no other role with the chance to Guide our guests across our indoor and outdoor experiences, on or off the water depending on experience and training, plus work at the activities and retail desks to support the end-to-end guest experience.

What will you bring to the role?

• Proficiency in speaking English, together with Mandarin or Japanese
• Preferred experience as a Skipper or Driver Guide, or ability to train.
• NZ driver’s license or international equivalent
• Class 2 P endorsement is preferred, or the ability to obtain.
• Passion for the outdoors and eagerness to learn and collaborate
• The ability to manage group of guests in remote locations
• Proficient in public speaking with excellent communication skills.
• A strong sense of responsibility, commitment, reliability and the flexibility to work across different tours and products.
• Confidence is using technology to support guests to check in and purchase experiences and products.
