Job summary

Group Support in Hāwera, Taranaki, seeks a senior finance leader to head the accounting function. You will manage a seven-person team through the monthly cycle, turning numbers into actionable commentary for directors, while partnering with the CFO on budgets and forecasts.

You’ll drive scalable processes across AP/AR and systems, mentor staff, and report to the CFO. Hybrid work includes four days in Hawera and one from home or NP office.

Qualifications

• Solid accounting or finance experience with senior or team-leading roles.
• Ability to provide monthly management reporting and CFO-ready commentary.
• CA qualification preferred.
• Experience with multi-entity consolidation is not required.

Responsibilities

About the role

This is a new senior role, created as Group Support grows and the reporting behind it needs to keep pace. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead the accounting team and take ownership of the monthly numbers that leadership relies on.

You will lead a team of seven through the monthly accounting cycle, making sure management reporting across the group of businesses lands accurately and on time. The interesting part is what comes next: reading the results, working out what they mean, and turning that into clear commentary the directors and board can act on. Anyone can produce a set of financials. This role is about telling the story behind them.
This role will focus on:

• Leading the accounting team through the monthly management reporting for the group
• Providing the insight and commentary that explains the results, not just the figures
• Supporting the CFO and Group Finance Manager with budgets, forecasts and financial planning
• Developing the team through coaching and clear direction, and keeping processes sharp across AP, AR and systems

Skills and experience

You know your way around a full set of books and can tell the story behind them. You understand how a business connects from purchasing through to AP, AR and the reporting that follows, and you can deliver a P&L, balance sheet and cashflow into something a CFO or board will actually use.
To succeed in this role you will have:

• Solid accounting or finance experience, including time in a senior or team lead role
• Real team leadership skills, and the confidence to guide a team through a busy monthly cycle
• Strong analysis and the judgement to know what the numbers are telling you
• A CA qualification is preferred

You do not need to have worked in a multi-entity group like this one. A strong grasp of the fundamentals and the ability to see how the parts connect matters more. Experience with MYOB, Infusion, CALXA, simPRO or the Google suite is a bonus, not a must.
