Job summary

SGS New Zealand Limited is seeking a motivated Mechanical Apprentice to join our team and gain hands‑on experience on geothermal and industrial equipment. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn and gain a nationally recognised trade qualification with mentorship from skilled tradespeople.

You’ll be involved in maintenance, repair, and installation, learning practical fitting and mechanical skills while contributing to a safe, efficient operation and a strong team culture.

Qualifications

• Interest in mechanical trades, engineering or hands‑on work.
• Previous practical work experience.
• Completion of a mechanical/engineering/trade pre‑trade course is highly regarded.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
• Positive attitude and reliable work ethic.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safety and following procedures.
• Full New Zealand driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance, repair and installation of geothermal pipelines, valves and steamfield equipment.
• Learn practical fitting and mechanical skills alongside experienced tradespeople.
• Support planned maintenance and outage activities to keep operations running smoothly.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Learn to read technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Carry out inspections and quality checks under supervision.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and training activities.
• Follow health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Actively participate in apprenticeship training toward achieving your trade qualification.
• Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
