Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance in Auckland is building a new Data & AI function. We turn early ideas into prototypes, test AI agents, automation workflows and integrations, and hand off proven solutions to scale the business.

You'll move between hands-on coding and plain conversations with the business about what's possible, explaining trade-offs as you ship code. The role blends technical delivery with business dialogue, requiring pragmatism, curiosity about AI, and a bias for action.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with generative AI tools and modern LLM-based systems.
• Experience building integrations through APIs, webhooks and automation platforms.
• Practical understanding of how automated workflows are put together.
• Background in AI, ML, software or analytics engineering with realism about feasibility.
• Good judgement on tests and viability; clear communication of technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Build and iterate on AI-driven prototypes, scripts and automation workflows.
• Experiment with generative AI tools, agent frameworks and orchestration platforms.
• Connect APIs, SaaS tools and data systems to test workflows in practice.
• Turn ambiguous business ideas into small, testable technical experiments.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers and business teams to validate concepts fast.
• Document what works and what doesn’t for future development.
• Demonstrate working prototypes to stakeholders to inform decisions.
