About the role

This is a permanent full time (1.0FTE, 80 hours a fortnight)and 1:6 on-call.The role involves managing a broad range of general medical conditions, contributing to the acute take and inpatient ward rounds, and working collaboratively with nursing staff, allied health, and visiting subspecialists.This position offers the opportunity to practice comprehensive general medicine in a regional hospital setting, serving a close-knit community within the Marlborough region.

As a General Medicine Physician, you will:

  • Be passionate about general medicine and make a contribution to a high functioning team.
  • Participate in the general medicine acute rosterwith 4 hours average call-back a week.
  • Teach and develop our junior medical workforce.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of careacross the health continuum working with a supportive multidisciplinaryteam.
  • Partner with primary and tertiary care providers to improve the health of the population in Marlborough region.

About the Team/Service/Location

Wairau Hospital is a modern, well-equipped secondary carefacility serving the Marlborough region, approximately 45,000 people. Ourgeneral medicine service provides high-quality acute inpatient and outpatientcare, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team. We maintain close linkswith Nelson Hospital and tertiary centres, ensuring excellent patient care andprofessional development opportunities.

You will be joining a small, supportive team of experiencedphysicians, including one from a Rural Hospital background, who are passionateabout general medicine. Our team works closely with nursing staff, alliedhealth professionals, and primary care providers to ensure an integratedapproach to patient management, patient-centred care to the Marlborough region.

Local services include Emergency, Paediatrics, SpecialistHealth of Older Persons, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, O & G. Visitingservices include Oncology, Haematology, Cardiology, Rheumatology and a numberof other subspecialty teams. Diagnostic services include MRI, CT, Laboratory.

About you:

We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented General Medicine Physician who thrives in a provincial hospital environment. You will bring broad general medical expertise, with subspecialty interests welcomed and supported. You'll also play an important role in teaching and supporting our registrars and junior medical staff.

  • Bring your general medical expertise and experienceto an acute secondary care hospital and contribute to advanced care of theacute inpatients and outpatients in the region.
  • Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian Collegeof Physicians or equivalent.
  • Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificateand vocational scope of Internal Medicine or for the right person, RuralHospital Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Work with others to promote a cohesive team cultureof collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect acrossdisciplines.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing medicaleducation and professional development.
