Job summary

WALSH Trust in Auckland is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a significant portfolio of community mental health services and to drive strategic outcomes for tāngata whaiora, whānau, and communities across Auckland.

You will oversee senior managers and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring services are safe, financially sustainable, and aligned with our recovery-focused philosophy and sector expectations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a General Manager, Director, Executive Manager, or equivalent senior leadership role.
  • Significant leadership experience within the mental health, health, disability, addiction, or social services sector.
  • Demonstrated success leading leaders and multidisciplinary teams across complex service environments.
  • Strong financial, operational, and organisational leadership capability.
  • Experience driving service improvement, organisational change, quality initiatives, and strategic projects.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills across government, community and sector networks.
  • A genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
  • Alignment with WALSH Trust's recovery-focused philosophy and organisational values.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this is a significant leadership position with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of community mental health services.

You will lead experienced managers and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring services are safe, effective, financially sustainable, and aligned with organisational strategy and sector expectations.

Working closely with funders, health providers, community partners, iwi, and sector stakeholders, you will play a key role in strengthening organisational performance, supporting service innovation, and identifying opportunities for future growth and development.

This role requires a leader who can confidently balance strategic thinking with operational excellence while maintaining a strong focus on people, culture, and outcomes.

About You
  • Proven experience in a General Manager, Director, Executive Manager, or equivalent senior leadership role
