Job description

Lead the next stage of an established screen-services business operating across New Zealand, Australia and international markets.

For more than a decade, The Rebel Fleet has helped film and television productions manage complex technical, media and information workflows.

From on-set video assist, DIT and equipment rental through to dailies, media management, VFX workflows and post-production, our team helps productions run smoothly so filmmakers can focus on the creative.

We have supported major productions including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Mad Max: Furiosa, A Minecraft Movie, Predator: Badlands, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Sweet Tooth.

Following the separation of our Konsol software business into its own entity, we are now looking for a commercially capable General Manager to lead The Rebel Fleet’s core services business through its next stage of growth.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Board, you will take ownership of the day-to-day performance of the business and lead an experienced permanent team across New Zealand and Australia, supported by an established network of specialist freelancers.

You will turn strategy into practical execution, strengthen commercial and operational disciplines and create the structure needed to scale without adding unnecessary complexity.

You will inherit a highly capable team, strong client relationships and a respected position within the international screen industry. Your role is to build on that foundation - not arrive with a corporate playbook and change everything on day one.

What you’ll lead

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning business performance against strategy, budgets and commercial targets
  • Translating Board priorities into clear plans, accountabilities and measurable outcomes
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting, pricing and project-level financial performance
  • Improving revenue visibility, utilisation, margins, cash flow and repeat business
  • Strengthening marketing, pipeline development and key client relationships
  • Leading and developing the management team while empowering capable people to deliver
  • Supporting The Rebel Fleet’s specialist freelance community as a valued part of the business
  • Improving operating systems, management information and reporting
  • Identifying sustainable growth opportunities across New Zealand, Australia and international markets
  • Collaborating with Konsol and Rogue Unit where shared opportunities create value
What we’re looking for

You will be a commercially astute and grounded leader who can move comfortably between strategy and execution. You create clarity and accountability without micromanaging experienced people.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Senior general management, operational or commercial leadership experience
  • Experience in a project-based, technical services or similarly people-intensive business
  • Demonstrated ownership of budgets, forecasts, margins and overall business performance
  • A track record of improving systems, accountability and operational delivery
  • Strong people leadership experience, including developing managers and specialist teams
  • Experience leading a mix of permanent employees, contractors or freelancers
  • The credibility to build senior client relationships and support business development
  • An interest in technology, workflows and improving how complex work is delivered
  • The ability to communicate confidently with a Board, clients and technical specialists

Film, television or post-production experience would be useful but is not essential. We are equally interested in leaders from technology-enabled services, equipment rental, creative production, engineering or other technically complex B2B environments.

You must be willing to travel as required.

Why join The Rebel Fleet?

This is an opportunity to take real ownership of an established business with a strong reputation, proven international relationships and significant potential.

You will work with an experienced team, engaged Board and founders while shaping how The Rebel Fleet operates, grows and succeeds in its next chapter.

Competitive remuneration will reflect the scope and seniority of the role.
