Job summary

Downer Wellington is seeking a dedicated Gardener to maintain parks, reserves, and public spaces across the Wellington region. The role focuses on outdoor maintenance, planting, pruning, and ensuring high safety standards while delivering excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate is physically fit, a team player, and has a passion for garden upkeep with strong communication skills and reliability. Training, safety gear, and career development are provided.

Qualifications

• Full driver’s licence (Class 2 an advantage) with experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance desirable.
• New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture level 3/4 highly regarded
• Confidence using gardening equipment such as hedge trimmers, weed eaters, knapsack sprayers, and other handheld tools.
• Positive, professional, and reliable attitude with strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently, show initiative, and take pride in maintaining outdoor spaces.
• Good communication skills and confidence interacting with the public.
• Willingness to learn, follow safety procedures, and use basic electronic devices for work tasks.

Responsibilities

• Planting, pruning, weed control, edging, mulching, hedge trimming, garden maintenance, and general upkeep across designated client sites.
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and customer service.
