Job summary

Potentia in Canterbury seeks a hands-on Full Stack Engineer to join a growing tech team in Christchurch. You’ll work across the stack from initial design through to production, owning services and shaping customer-facing features.

The role blends frontend work with Vue.js or React and backend with C#/.NET, on AWS cloud. You’ll collaborate with product and design, write tests, and use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience building and supporting production web applications.
• Strong frontend experience with Vue.js, React or a similar framework.
• Strong backend experience with C#/.NET preferred.
• Solid SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
• Hands-on AWS experience in production.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS and Lambda.
• Good computer science fundamentals and a pragmatic approach to system design.
• Experience working with APIs and modern web applications.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience using AI coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship features across both frontend and backend.
• Develop customer-facing web applications and the services behind them.
• Design APIs and backend services that support new functionality.
• Work with relational databases and SQL.
• Take ownership of your services in production.
• Contribute to reliability, monitoring and incident response.
• Work closely with product and design from initial requirements through to launch.
• Contribute to technical and design decisions within your area.
• Help modernise existing systems and move functionality onto newer technologies.
• Write and maintain automated tests as part of the development process.
• Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, testing, refactoring and documentation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and technical leads on larger architectural decisions.
