Crescent Recruitment – Christchurch, South Island
XE are growing their Christchurch technology team and are looking for a couple of Full Stack Developers to join a global business working at the centre of cross-border payments, foreign exchange, and financial technology.
These roles are open to strong upper intermediate developers who are progressing toward senior level, as well as established senior developers who are ready to take ownership of more complex technical work.
XE helps consumers and businesses collect, convert, hold, and send money across international markets. Each year, hundreds of millions of people use XE for currency information, and hundreds of thousands use XE to send money overseas.
Backed by Euronet Worldwide, XE has the scale of a global financial services group, while the Christchurch team remains small enough for developers to have real ownership, direct input, and visible impact.
The role
These are hands-on full stack development roles working across modern web applications, backend services, cloud infrastructure, and customer-facing product features.
You will be joining XE at a significant point in its technology journey. The business is rebuilding and modernising the platform layer behind its corporate and consumer payments products, and the Christchurch team is expanding to increase its local full stack capability.
You will work in a product-focused squad alongside developers, QA, product owners, team leads, and wider global technology teams. This is not a heavily client-facing role, but you will need to be comfortable communicating clearly within a team and contributing to technical discussions.
XE is also moving strongly into AI-assisted development. GitHub Copilot and other AI coding tools are already part of how the team builds, tests, documents, and ships software. These roles will suit developers who are genuinely interested in using AI well as part of their everyday engineering workflow.
What you’ll be doing
Depending on your level of experience, you’ll be involved in:
What we’re looking for
You do not need to tick every box, but you will likely bring:
For upper intermediate developers, XE will be looking for strong technical foundations, clear growth potential, and the ability to take ownership of meaningful work.
For senior developers, XE will be looking for deeper technical ownership, stronger system design capability, confidence contributing to architecture and design discussions, and the ability to support or mentor other developers.
Experience in payments, banking, foreign exchange, insurance, fintech, or another regulated environment would be useful, but it is not essential.
Why these roles are worth considering
These are good opportunities for full stack developers who want exposure to:
Working arrangement
The roles are based in XE’s Christchurch CBD office with a hybrid model. You will need to be in the office at least three days per week.
The team is pragmatic and flexible around normal life commitments, including school drop-offs and pickups. There may occasionally be calls with overseas teams due to XE’s global footprint.
