Job summary

Kiwibuilds and Renovations Limited in Auckland seeks an experienced Floor Tiler for residential renovation projects. You will work in a small team and also manage tiling tasks independently on a permanent, full-time basis.

We expect a Level 4 Construction trade qualification or at least 2 years tiling experience, with strong measurement and surface preparation skills. Pay is NZD 30–35 per hour, with a 30–35 hour week.

About the role

We are looking for practical and reliable tiler to work on our residential renovation and construction jobs. Most of our work is in homes, bathrooms, kitchens and other renovation areas.

You will work as part of a small team, but will also be expected to manage your own tiling work and complete jobs to a good standard.

What you will do

Your day-to-day work may include:

• Check the job area and measurements before starting the tiling work.
• Remove old tiles, rubbish and loose material when working on renovation jobs.
• Clean and prepare floors or walls before starting.
• Do basic patching or leveling where the surface needs preparation.
• Measure the area and work out where the tiles should start and finish.
• Mark out the floor or wall so the tiles are straight and properly lined up.
• Mix tile adhesive, grout and other materials as needed.
• Cut tiles to fit around walls, corners, drains, pipes, doors and other fittings.
• Lay floor and wall tiles and make sure the spacing is even.
• Check the tiles as you go to make sure they are level and sitting properly.
• Grout finished areas and apply sealant where required.
• Clean excess adhesive and grout from the tiles before the job is finished.
• Replace broken or poorly fitted tiles if required.
• Check the finished area and fix small issues before leaving the job.
• Load, unload and move tiles, adhesive, tools and other materials around the site.
• Keep your tools in good condition and clean the work area at the end of the day.
• Work around other trades such as builders, plumbers, electricians and painters.
• Speak with the supervisor about measurements, materials or any problems found on site.
• Help with basic site clean-up and other reasonable tasks when a job is being completed.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone who:

• A Level 4 qualification in Construction trade, or at least 2 years of relevant construction/tiling experience is required.
• Can measure and cut tiles accurately.
• Knows how to prepare surfaces and use tile adhesive and grout.
• Can use normal tiling hand tools and power tools safely.
• Can read basic measurements and follow job instructions.
• Takes care with the finished work and pays attention to straight lines and even joints.
• Can work independently but is also comfortable working with a small team.
• Is reliable, punctual and willing to help when required.
• Can work on their knees, bend, lift materials and carry out physical work on construction sites.
• Understands basic health and safety requirements.

Experience working on residential renovations, bathrooms, kitchens or building projects will be an advantage.
