Job summary

Transdev Australia & New Zealand in Wellington seeks a Fleet Engineering Manager to lead engineering and maintenance, ensuring safety, reliability, and availability of the fleet. You will work with our maintenance partner Hyundai Rotem, drive standards, and oversee capital projects to improve assets and performance.

You will bring a mechanical or electrical engineering degree, 10+ years in engineering, rail experience preferred, and strong analytical and stakeholder management skills to lead

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in engineering roles.
  • Rail experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven senior project management experience supporting large businesses.
  • Solid technical background with understanding of rail assets and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the General Manager, Operations to monitor, sustain and improve maintenance subcontract performance indicators.
  • Own rolling stock engineering and maintenance standards and risks.
  • Ensure compliance of the maintenance subcontractor with engineering and maintenance standards and schedules.
  • Provide professional engineering and maintenance safety expertise.
  • Represent Transdev in FRACAS forum for fault recording and corrective actions.
  • Review engineering submissions to ensure high standards.
  • Lead Wellington Hyundai Rotem in development of documentation, plans and schedules if required.
  • Coordinate with senior management to ensure flawless project execution.
  • Provide regular reporting on rolling stock asset performance.
  • Ensure ISO Asset Management standards compliance with GCQ to meet regulations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering excellence, operational performance, and stakeholder collaboration, helping to deliver a safe and reliable transport service for our customers and communities. The Fleet Engineering Manager is responsible for maintaining the long-term safety, reliability, and availability of the fleet through a close partnership with our maintenance provider, Hyundai Rotem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the General Manager, Operations to monitor, sustain and improve the maintenance subcontract Performance Indicators
  • Ownership of rolling stock engineering and maintenance standards and risks
  • Manage compliance of the maintenance subcontractor with engineering and maintenance standards and schedules
  • Provide professional engineering and maintenance safety expertise
  • Represent Transdev in the Fault Recording, Analysis and Corrective Action (FRACAS) forum
  • Review engineering submissions including engineering change proposals and maintenance plans to ensure they are of a high standard
  • Lead Hyundai Rotem (Wellington) in development of relevant documentation, plans, programmes, and Gantt charts, etc. if required
  • Coordinate with senior management to ensure flawless execution of assigned projects
  • Provide regular reporting on rolling stock asset performance
  • Ensure compliance to ISO standards for Asset Management and work with the General Manager, QSE to ensure compliance to regulations, legislations and standards governing the rail industry
About You

You are a collaborative and commercially aware engineering professional who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent stakeholder management skills. You are comfortable working in complex operational environments and are motivated by delivering practical solutions that improve safety, reliability, and customer outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Mechanical or electrical engineering degree
  • Rail experience (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in engineering roles
  • Analytical skills
  • Proven experience in a senior project management role supporting large businesses, preferably in the field of engineering and business improvement project management
  • Solid technical background, with understanding or hands on experience in rail maintenance or engineering
  • Experience managing change to assets and business process
