Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, Dunedin, is seeking a Fixed Term Registered Nurse for District Nurse Community Nursing. This 0.6 FTE role is fixed term until November 2027 and is based in the Dunedin area providing community nursing across Palmerston and Middlemarch.

The nurse will deliver specialist wound care, IV meds, palliative care and catheter management while closely linked to Dunedin Hospital to support safe, patient‑centred care after discharge.

Qualifications

  • Varied nursing experience of 3–5 years including acute clinical, surgical and medical nursing.
  • Registered Nurse with current Practising Certificate.
  • Full, clean driver Licence is essential for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement community-based care for a diverse patient group.
  • Be out and about delivering care across Dunedin and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinate with Dunedin Hospital, GPs, Hospice and residential facilities to support safe discharge and continuity of care.

Job description

Fixed Term Registered Nurse – District Nurse Community Nursing – Dunedin Hospital, Fixed term part time 0.6 FTE role, Fixed term role until November 2027.

Salary between $81,683 and $106,739 per annum pro rata.

About the Role

The District Nursing service provides comprehensive nursing care to the greater Dunedin area including Palmerston and Middlemarch. This includes specialist wound care (including ACC), intravenous medication administration, palliative care, catheter management and much more. The service is closely linked to Dunedin Hospital to help ensure patients are supported safely in the community after hospital discharge while also maintaining close liaison with local GP practices, Hospice and residential facilities. This is an opportunity for you to adapt and increase your clinical skills to become a 'specialist generalist'. You will be out and about working in different places, and each hour is varied from the next. You'll be responsible for planning and implementing care to a diverse range of patients in the community.

  • Have a full, clean drivers licence is essential for this position.
  • Varied nursing experience of 3-5 years including acute clinical, surgical and medical nursing.
  • Be registered in accordance with the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 as a Registered Nurse.
  • Possess a current Practising Certificate.
