Beyond Recruitment – Wellington, North Island

Do you enjoy building financial models that influence real business decisions?

Our client is a large-scale utilities organisation responsible for delivering an essential service to thousands of homes and businesses across the Wellington region. With significant long-term investment programmes underway, they are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership team, you'll play a key role in financial planning, forecasting, investment analysis, and supporting a major regulatory programme. This is a highly visible role where your insights will directly influence strategic and operational decision‑making.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional reporting position. You will take ownership of financial forecasting, develop and maintain sophisticated financial models, and provide robust analysis that supports investment decisions across significant capital programmes. You'll partner with stakeholders across the business, helping translate complex financial information into meaningful commercial insights that drive action.

Key responsibilities include:
  • End-to-end budgeting, forecasting, reforecasting and long-term financial planning
  • Building and maintaining integrated financial models across P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow
  • Scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis
  • Supporting capital investment decisions and business case development
  • Providing financial analysis for major regulatory and strategic initiatives
  • Identifying trends, risks and performance drivers across the organisation
  • Working with large datasets and business systems to ensure reporting accuracy and integrity
  • Presenting financial insights to senior leaders and non‑financial stakeholders.
About you

We're looking for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys getting under the hood of the numbers and challenging assumptions.

You'll likely bring:
  • 5+ years' experience in financial analysis, planning and forecasting
  • Strong financial modelling capability, including building models from first principles
  • Experience working with integrated P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow forecasts
  • Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • The ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and confidently
  • Experience using tools such as Power BI, SAP or similar ERP/reporting platforms
  • Exposure to infrastructure, utilities, asset‑intensive organisations, or regulated environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
What’s in it for you?
  • Highly visible role partnering with the CFO and senior leadership team
  • Opportunity to contribute to a significant business‑critical investment programme
  • Commercially focused analytical work with genuine strategic impact
  • Accessible location in the Hutt Valley
  • Supportive, collaborative and high‑performing team environment
  • 12-month fixed‑term opportunity with immediate impact and exposure to senior decision‑makers.
