Job summary

KiwiRail in Wellington is seeking a Financial Accountant to contribute to month-end and year-end reporting, treasury accounting, taxation support, journals and reconciliations. You will work with stakeholders across KiwiRail to provide timely financial advice and help decision-making.

You will also support treasury back-office and middle-office activities, assist external audits, and contribute to high-quality financial reporting in a complex operating environment.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience in a financial accounting role.
• Solid understanding of NZ IFRS and/or PBE IPSAS and financial reporting.
• A commerce degree and CA (or working towards) qualification.
• Experience in a large or complex organisation is advantageous.

As a Financial Accountant, you will contribute to a broad range of activities including month-end and year-end reporting, treasury accounting, taxation support, journals and reconciliations. With a customer-focused approach, you will work with stakeholders across KiwiRail providing timely financial advice, support business decision-making, and help ensure the integrity and accuracy of key financial processes.

You’ll also provide essential support for treasury back-office and middle-office activities, support external audit requirements, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality financial reporting in a complex operating environment.

• Three to five years’ experience in a financial accounting role
• You have a good understanding of financial processes, reporting requirements and NZ IFRS and/or PBE IPSAS
• A relevant commerce degree and CA (or equivalent) qualification, or working towards qualification
• Experience within a large or complex organisation would be advantageous

You’ll bring your excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team as well as being someone who can work independently. You’ll be great at building and maintaining effective working relationships and be enthusiastic at exploring new ways to improve processes and systems.
