Job summary

Ministry of Justice (New Zealand) is seeking a 1-year fixed-term Team Leader Financial Accounting to lead a small team responsible for external reporting, financial controls, and taxation compliance. You will mentor staff and drive technical accounting across reporting cycles, liaising with auditors and driving process improvements.

This role offers inter-agency secondments and a supportive environment within a large, diverse organisation committed to public sector stewardship.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of government financial management legislation, policies, and IPSAS.
• Experience preparing financial statements and external reporting in a complex organisation.
• Strong leadership with experience coaching and developing a financial accounting team.
• Ability to provide technical accounting advice that safeguards reporting integrity.
• Strong analytical, strategic and planning skills with a commercial approach.
• Organisational and planning skills to prioritise and manage deadlines.
• Ability to build stakeholder relationships across organisations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
