Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is seeking a Property Assessor to conduct residential property assessments across your region, identify issues, and perform minor maintenance to ensure homes meet health, safety, and building code standards. You will engage with tenants, manage your schedule, and contribute data to inform asset decisions.

This hands-on role requires building maintenance or construction experience, strong customer focus, and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

  • Ideally, a relevant National Certificate (Level 4) building and/or design qualification. Alternatively, you will have relevant experience within the building maintenance sector
  • Ideally, a Diploma (Level 6) in Building Control Surveying and/or a recognised qualification in building design and/or construction (Advanced Trade Certificate, NZCB, NZCD or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in building construction, maintenance or an inspections role
  • Demonstrated people skills to achieve outcomes and sound customer approach when in homes
  • Good building technical knowledge, application, and awareness
  • Strong relevant legislative knowledge, application, and understanding
  • You’ll have a wealth of experience working with iwi and rōpū Māori at a regional/national level
  • A current, full clean New Zealand Driver's Licence

Responsibilities

  • Conduct residential property assessments across your region
  • Identify condition-based issues and complete minor maintenance tasks
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and building code standards
  • Manage own daily schedule and work directly with tenants in their homes
  • Engage effectively with tenants to gather reliable property data for asset decisions
  • Travel across the region to support housing outcomes
