Job summary

Trethewey Artisan Stone in Christchurch, NZ, is seeking an experienced Fabrication Leading Hand or a seasoned Fabricator ready to step into a partial supervisory role. This hands-on position requires about 70% tooling on the shop floor and 30% supervising the fabrication team in our Christchurch workshop.

Typical hours are Monday to Thursday 7:00am–4:30pm, Friday 7:00am–3:30pm, with overtime and Saturday work during busy periods.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in stone fabrication.
• Experience leading or supervising a team is beneficial.
• Ability to read plans.
• Good communication and people skills.
• Hands-on approach.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, shape, polish & finish stone from basic tops to high-end mitred jobs.
• Create bespoke pieces from plans.
• Surface work & repairs.
• Use workshop tools confidently.
• Supervise and support the fabrication team.
• Monitor quality and ensure work is completed to a high standard.
• Help train and develop team members.
• Manage issues as they arise and keep the team working efficiently.

Artisan Stone is a leading South Island business delivering premium stone, quartz, and porcelain surfaces. We work with top architects, designers, and builders across NZ, combining craftsmanship with cutting-edge tech.

The role:

We’re looking for an experienced Fabrication Leading Hand looking for their next opportunity, or an experienced Fabricator who is ready to step into a partial supervisory role. This is a hands-on position, with approximately 70% of your time on the tools and 30% supervising and managing the fabrication team. Working alongside our QA and Planning teams to support efficient production and maintain quality standards.

Full-time, Monday to Thursday 7:00am–4:30pm, Friday 7:00am 3:30pm in our Christchurch workshop. Overtime and Saturday work available in busy months.

What you’ll do:

Fabricate, shape, polish & finish stone from basic tops to high-end mitred jobs

Create bespoke pieces from plans

Surface work & repairs

Use workshop tools confidently

Supervise and support the fabrication team

Monitor quality and ensure work is completed to a high standard

Help train and develop team members

Manage issues as they arise and keep the team working efficiently

What you’ll bring:

Strong experience in stone fabrication
