Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Experienced Veterinary Nurses — Want cases, responsibility & autonomy?

111 Vet Clinic Limited – Kumeu, North Island

  • Full-time | $33–$37/hr depending on experience and shifts

Are you an experienced veterinary nurse who wants to actually nurse?

Do you enjoy emergency cases and want more responsibility?

Are you already employed elsewhere but would happily pick up one regular Saturday or Sunday shift.

Do night shifts suit your life better than fighting your way through five conventional weekdays.

Or perhaps you're looking for 32–40 hours and want a role where you can keep developing clinically rather than doing the same thing every day.

111 Vet Clinic is growing, and we're looking for more than one great nurse.

We're building a strong nursing team around our extended-hours veterinary service in Kumeū and can consider experienced nurses wanting anything from one regular weekend shift through to 32–40 hours per week.

Nights
  • Weekends
  • Part-time
  • Full-time | $33–$37/hr depending on experience and shifts

You could choose from:

  • Night shifts: midnight–8:30am, ideally 2–3 fixed nights per week

  • Weekend shifts: Saturday, Sunday or both

  • Day shifts: typically 10am–6:30pm or 11am–7.30pm

  • Afternoon/evening shifts: 4pm–12:30am

  • Or a combination of nights/weekends with weekday afternoon shifts

We're not promising a “work whenever you feel like it” roster. We are willing to build sensible, predictable combinations around excellent people.

That could mean regular weekdays free for horses, study, family responsibilities, another job, your own business or simply having a life when the rest of Auckland is at work.

Night Owl? This may be the role you've been looking for.

Our overnight nurses need to be comfortable working independently, recognising changes in a patient's condition and taking responsibility for excellent inpatient care.

You’ll be involved with cases such as emergency presentations, trauma, toxicities, seizures, oxygen dependant patients, post-operative patients and intensive monitoring.

We're looking for nurses comfortable with most of the following:

  • IV catheter placement

  • Fluid therapy and CRIs

  • Anaesthetic and post-operative monitoring

  • Emergency triage

  • Hospital and critical-patient monitoring

  • Oxygen therapy

  • Seizure and toxicity cases

  • Trauma/HBC patients

  • Radiography

  • In-house laboratory work

  • Urinary catheter and feeding-tube care

  • CPR

  • Surgical assistance

  • Communicating confidently and compassionately with worried owners

  • Recognising deterioration and escalating appropriately

Blood collection is useful, but not an absolute requirement if you're strong in the rest of the role.

And when the hospital is quiet, the shift doesn't become dead time. We use quieter periods to improve the clinic: updating protocols, deep cleaning and organisation, creating client education, helping develop website/membership content and producing reels and social-media content.

We want someone who can see what needs doing and get on with it.

Who will thrive here?

Qualifications matter, but competence and attitude matter more.
Ideally, you'll have a recognised veterinary nursing qualification or equivalent and at least three years of genuine hands‑on small‑animal nursing experience. VN registration is welcomed but isn't essential. An experienced unqualified nurse may also be considered where their practical ability is strong.

Our five non‑negotiables are simple:

Compassion

  • Initiative
  • Excellence
  • Reliability
  • Teamwork

We value nurses who maintain genuinely high standards of cleanliness and infection control, handle animals exceptionally well, remain useful when things become stressful and don't need to be constantly told what to do.

What can you grow into?

We're still developing, which means the right people can grow with us.

ECC/ICU
  • surgical and anaesthetic nursing
  • senior/head nursing
  • nurse consults
  • training and leadership
  • integrative veterinary care
  • client education
  • community projects

You won't be restricted to basic nursing if you're capable of more.

You'll gain exposure to emergency and critical‑care cases, surgery, diagnostics including ultrasound, and both conventional and integrative veterinary medicine.

What we offer
  • $33–$35/hr base for experienced nurses depending on qualification, capability and experience

  • Additional $2/hr for designated night and weekend shifts

  • Potential earnings of $35–$37/hr on those shifts for suitably experienced nurses

  • Fixed shifts where possible

  • Flexible part‑time/full‑time (8hrs/week through to 32–40 hrs/week)

  • Staff pet discounts

  • Uniforms

  • Free parking

  • Genuine clinical variety and responsibility

  • Opportunities to develop new skills and areas of responsibility

  • $500–$1,000 CPD/annum support for eligible 32+ hour team members

  • Exposure to ECC, surgery, diagnostics, ultrasound and integrative veterinary medicine

  • Opportunity to become part of a growing independent veterinary business rather than another number in a large organisation

Already have a job?

That's completely fine.

If you're an experienced nurse who'd like one extra Saturday or Sunday shift, two regular nights, or simply want to know whether there might be a better fit for you, we'd still like to hear from you.
