Job summary

The Vet Clinic in Botany Downs, Auckland, is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Nurse to join on a part-time basis. You will support veterinarians, provide high-quality patient care, and help maintain a well-organised clinic.

The role requires recognised veterinary nursing qualification and NZ registration, with experience in clinical settings. You will contribute to animal welfare, client communication, and efficient clinic operations.

Qualifications

  • Recognised veterinary nursing qualification or equivalent professional certification recognised in New Zealand.
  • Current registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Council (or eligible to register).
  • Proven experience as a veterinary nurse in a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, surgical assistance and animal husbandry.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinarians during surgical and medical procedures, ensuring instruments and equipment are prepared and maintained.
  • Performing routine nursing duties including wound care, dressing changes, and post-operative monitoring.
  • Preparing and administering medications under veterinary supervision.
  • Conducting pre-operative and post-operative assessments and observations.
  • Handling and restraining animals safely and humanely during examinations and treatments.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records and medical documentation.
  • Sterilising and maintaining surgical instruments and the operating theatre to high standards.
  • Providing compassionate support and information to animal owners regarding pet care.
  • Assisting with laboratory work, including blood tests and diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean, hygienic and organised clinic environment.
  • Supporting the wider clinic team to deliver excellent customer service and animal welfare.

The Vet Clinic - Botany Downs, North Island

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join The Vet Clinic team on a part-time basis in Botany Downs, Auckland. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in animal welfare whilst working within a supportive veterinary practice environment. As a Veterinary Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care, supporting our veterinarians, and ensuring the smooth operation of our clinic. Your contribution will directly impact the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care and the satisfaction of our clients.

Key responsibilities

Assisting veterinarians during surgical and medical procedures, ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly prepared and maintained

What we’re looking for

Recognised veterinary nursing qualification or equivalent professional certification recognised in New Zealand

Current registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Council (or eligible to register)

Proven experience working as a veterinary nurse in a clinical setting

Strong knowledge of veterinary nursing practices, surgical assistance, and animal husbandry

Excellent animal handling skills with a genuine passion for animal welfare

Ability to work calmly and compassionately with animals that may be anxious, injured or in pain

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and veterinary staff

Attention to detail and meticulous approach to record-keeping and hygiene standards

Physical capability to lift, restrain and handle animals of various sizes

Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a collaborative team

Knowledge of health and safety regulations within veterinary practice
