Carpenter – Fixed Term Project

Qualified carpenters required for construction projects in Lower Hutt and Porirua. Early starts and Saturdays may apply. We’re recruiting qualified carpenters on behalf of an established client undertaking commercial construction projects across Lower Hutt and Porirua.

About the Role

This role is responsible for delivering high‑quality carpentry and joinery work across a range of commercial and residential construction projects. You will work from detailed construction plans to complete structural and interior elements, ensuring all work meets NZ Building Codes and project specifications. Your contribution will directly support project timelines and the overall quality of finished builds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications to complete assigned carpentry tasks.
  • Install and assemble steel stud framing, including setting out, fixing, and bracing to required tolerances.
  • Construct and install suspended ceilings, ensuring accurate levels, alignment, and integration with services.
  • Fix RAB (rigid air barrier) systems, including cutting, fitting, and sealing to manufacturer and code requirements.
  • Carry out gib fixing, including sheet installation, fastening, and preparation for stopping and finishing.
  • Perform general carpentry and joinery tasks, including framing, trimming, and fit‑off as required on site.
  • Use a range of hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete work to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and other trades to sequence work and maintain site safety and cleanliness.
Key Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Carpenter on commercial and/or residential construction projects.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and work accurately from construction plans and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience with suspended ceilings, steel stud framing, RAB systems, and gib fixing.
  • Proficient use of hand and power tools, with a strong focus on accuracy and productivity.
  • Solid understanding of NZ Building Codes and Standards relevant to carpentry and interior fit‑out.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality workmanship.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to changing site requirements.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience working on large‑scale commercial fit‑out or refurbishment projects.
  • Familiarity with acoustic systems, fire‑rated linings, and specialised ceiling or wall systems.
  • Experience coordinating with other trades (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing) on complex interiors.
  • Exposure to QA documentation, site checklists, and recording as‑built information.
Qualifications
  • Trade qualification in Carpentry (or equivalent) preferred.
  • NZ Carpentry apprenticeship completion or recognised overseas equivalent highly regarded.
  • Current Site Safe or equivalent construction safety training certificate advantageous.
  • Full or restricted driver’s licence preferred.
  • EWP certified or experience is a BONUS.
