Job description

Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwis than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today. This pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

We’re looking for an experienced Executive Assistant to provide dedicated support to our Chief Customer Officer and Customer Leadership Team.

This is a busy and highly connected part of Mercury, with priorities that can move quickly and multiple demands competing for attention. Your support will help create the space for the Chief Customer Officer and their leadership team to focus on strategic leadership, while ensuring the day-to-day activity around them is coordinated, prioritised and followed through.

There is also an opportunity to help shape how this dedicated support operates as our Customer business continues its transformation. You’ll be joining a close team and supporting leaders who are driving change across the business, so this will suit a senior EA who enjoys building effective ways of working rather than simply maintaining an established routine.

You’ll be joining a small team of Executive Assistants supporting this lead team. You'll be embraced as a well-respected member of the senior leadership team and feel empowered to speak up and contribute. As a business, we are constantly evolving and adapting and this may mean your Executive may change, providing you more experience and exposure to Mercury.

This role is Auckland-based and requires four days a week in our Newmarket office.

Tāu e mahi ai | What you’ll be doing

You’ll provide proactive, confidential and responsive support across the Chief Customer Officer’s office and Customer Leadership Team. This includes:

  • Managing a complex diary and helping ensure time and priorities are focused where they matter most
  • Coordinating correspondence, meetings, travel, visitors and other day-to-day executive requirements
  • Working closely with the Business Manager to anticipate needs, manage competing priorities and keep activity moving
  • Coordinating leadership team meetings, actions and follow-ups, making sure commitments are progressed promptly
  • Supporting internal and external communications, presentations and reporting to a high standard
  • Taking ownership of selected projects, events, functions and stakeholder activities from planning through to delivery
  • Building strong relationships across Mercury, with the Executive Leadership Team, other Executive Assistants and with external stakeholders

Occasional travel to other locations or work outside normal business hours may be required to support events or stakeholder activities.

You’ll be an experienced Executive Assistant who has supported at a senior executive level and is comfortable operating in a large, complex organisation. Experience within a significant retail or customer-focused business would be an advantage. This is a role where judgement matters. You’ll need to be able to look across a long list of competing requests, work out what needs attention first and confidently challenge or reset priorities when required.

You’ll also bring:

  • Strong organisation, forward planning and time management skills
  • The ability to stay effective when priorities change and several demands need attention at once
  • Confidence building relationships and working with people at all levels of an organisation
  • Sound judgement when managing confidential, sensitive and time-critical information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality business content
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to make decisions and use your initiative
  • Intermediate Excel skills and advanced Word and PowerPoint capability
  • High attention to detail and a strong standard of accuracy

You’ll work closely with a direct, delivery-focused leadership team, so being comfortable having clear conversations about priorities, deadlines and what can realistically be achieved will be important.
