Job summary

Seipp Construction Ltd in Auckland is seeking an estimator to join our growing team. You’ll contribute across the tender process from initial thinking through methodology, programme, pricing and handover, ensuring buildable, commercial solutions.

You’ll work with delivery, engineering and operations colleagues to test how a job will be built, value risks and opportunities, and develop toward a Senior Estimator as your capability grows.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction, estimating, quantity surveying, engineering or project delivery.
• Ability to read drawings, quantities, and rates to develop estimates.
• Strong commercial awareness and willingness to own tender outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, drawings, specs and scope.
• Develop first-principles estimates for labour, plant, materials, subs and prelims.
• Collaborate with delivery teams to test construction methodologies.
• Build understanding of programme, productivity and resourcing.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Support tender reviews, clarifications and handover to delivery teams.
• Progressively take ownership of more complex tenders.

You know your way around an estimate. You understand construction, you can get into the detail and you've built enough experience to know that a good tender is about much more than putting numbers against a scope.

At Seipp, our estimating team works closely with the people who actually deliver the work. You'll be involved in tenders from the early thinking through methodology, programme, pricing and risk, right through to submission and handover.

We're looking for an Estimator to join our growing Auckland team. This could be a particularly good move for someone who has built a strong foundation in estimating and is getting close to being ready for the next step in their career.

The opportunity

Seipp is an award-winning New Zealand infrastructure contractor delivering technically challenging civil infrastructure across the country.

Our Auckland business is growing, and so is the opportunity for our estimating team.

You’ll work across civil infrastructure including water and wastewater, pipelines, pump stations, structures, deep excavations, treatment infrastructure and complex civil and mechanical works.

We self-perform much of what we build, so our estimators aren't working in isolation from construction. You'll work alongside experienced project, engineering and operational people who can help test how a job will actually be built, what resources it will take and where the risks and opportunities sit.

For someone wanting to develop towards Senior Estimator, that exposure matters.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work across the tender process, with the level of ownership growing alongside your experience and capability.

You’ll be involved in:

• Reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and scope
• Developing first-principles estimates across labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and preliminaries
• Working with delivery teams to develop practical construction methodologies
• Building an understanding of programme, productivity and resourcing
• Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor pricing
• Identifying tender risks, opportunities and assumptions
• Supporting tender reviews and submissions
• Working through clarifications and changes as tenders progress
• Contributing to the handover of successful tenders to our delivery teams
• Learning from experienced estimators and operational leaders while progressively taking ownership of more complex work.

We don't expect you to arrive knowing everything. We do expect you to be curious, commercially aware, prepared to ask questions and willing to take ownership of your work.

What we’re looking for

You’ll already have experience within civil construction, ideally across estimating, quantity surveying, engineering or project delivery.

You’ll understand how construction comes together and be comfortable working with drawings, quantities, rates, productivity and subcontractor pricing.

Just as importantly, we’re interested in where you’re heading.

You might already be an Estimator who wants exposure to larger or more technically challenging tenders. You might be doing much of the work of a Senior Estimator but haven’t yet had the title or opportunity. Or you may have come through engineering, quantity surveying or project delivery and developed strong estimating capability along the way.

We’re not looking for someone simply because they know a particular estimating package. We’re looking for someone who thinks about the job behind the numbers.

You ask questions. You check your assumptions. You care about getting the detail right. You understand that cost, methodology, programme and risk are connected. And when you’re given more responsibility, you step into it.
