Job summary

Beca Environmental Advisory seeks an early-career Environmental Scientist based in Auckland or Wellington. The role focuses on water quality and wastewater management for major infrastructure clients, with opportunities across NZ’s environmental disciplines.

You will work on field projects nationwide, conduct sampling and reporting, and support consent applications while building strong client relationships within a collaborative team of environmental professionals.

Qualifications

• Water quality experience in NZ frameworks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Tertiary degree in environmental science or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Undertake field work at locations across NZ.
• Conduct environmental construction monitoring, sampling and reporting.
• Prepare desktop and site assessments to support projects and consents.

Thisrole will primarily workwithinour water qualitydiscipline,with a focus onwastewater management for our major infrastructure clients and New Zealand’s new water service entity operators.However, you can expect to supportourbroaderenvironmental disciplinesasrequired,which could offer exposure to a range of tasks such aswaterqualityassessments,wetlandorlizard surveys, andtest pitting with thecontaminated landteam.

Other responsibilities will include:

• Undertakingteam-based or independentfield work at locationsacross thecountry
• Environmental constructionmonitoring, and soil and/or water sampling
• Completing desktop and site analysestoprepare technical reports which support a range of environmental projects,such asoptions assessments,resource consentapplicationsandcompliance
• Maintaining and developing great relationships with internal and external clients.

As aBecaEnvironmental Scientist, you will join our national Environmental Advisory team. The team consists of trusted advisors, ecologists, water quality and air quality scientists, environmental specialists, and others in complementary disciplines such assustainability, planning andengineering;all ofwhomare committed to achieving great environmental outcomes.

Your background willinclude the followingessential skills and experience:

• Water qualityexperience,includingwith New Zealand’s water quality legislative and planning frameworks
• Strongwritten and verbalcommunication skills
• Atertiary degree in environmental science,chemistry, environmentalengineeringor a related discipline

Other desirableskillsand experience include:

• Undertakingfreshwaterecology workin parallel with water quality assessments
• Environmental management, compliance and monitoring, including erosion and sediment control practices
• Collection of environmental samples (such as soil, groundwater, surface water,ecological/ macroinvertebrates,sediment, and asbestos) via a range of methods, including hand auger, testpittingand drilling
• Proven ability in data analysis including the use of software such asESdatand GIS
• Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations
