Job summary

Arlo is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a 5–10 person engineering team in Wellington. You will own delivery end-to-end, guide architecture, and unblock hard problems with a strong technical voice.

This role requires balancing feature work with debt, security, and quality, while evolving the team's people and processes. You will mentor engineers, run 1:1s, recruit peers, and collaborate with Product and Design to convert roadmaps into actionable plans.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years managing a team with direct reports.
• Track record of shipping software on time as a team.
• Experience running agile/scrum delivery in a product engineering environment.
• Working knowledge of modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, DevOps).

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for your team: plan and prioritise work so commitments are met while maintaining quality.
• Set technical direction: balance feature delivery with technical debt, security and quality.
• Own incident response for your team's systems and perform blameless root-cause analysis.
• Lead your people: conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, develop plans, recruit and onboard new members.
• Build a psychologically safe team environment where engineers do their best work.
• Partner with Product, Design and stakeholders to translate roadmaps into engineering plans.
• Remove blockers and represent your team's work in wider planning.
• Track metrics (cycle time, deployment frequency, incident rates) to drive real improvement.
