Job summary

Foodstuffs North Island is seeking an Engineering/Maintenance Assistant to maintain and improve warehouse facilities across our distribution network in New Zealand. You’ll perform preventative maintenance on warehouse equipment, manage site assets, and coordinate contractors for projects.

The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and identifying efficiency improvements to reduce costs and downtime in a fast-paced 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years’ maintenance experience in facilities, factory, plant or distribution environments.
• Strong technical skills in maintaining warehouse equipment, MHE, batteries and chargers.
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools; welding/lathe skills are beneficial.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and MEX.
• Valid vehicle licences: Car, Forklift, and Elevated Work Platforms.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventative maintenance and minor repairs on warehouse equipment, facilities, and infrastructure.
• Maintain buildings and site assets, including signage, barriers, racking, lockers, and warehouse fit-outs.
• Coordinate contractors and support the delivery of engineering and maintenance projects across distribution centres.
• Ensure all maintenance activities meet safety, compliance, and documentation requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.

As an Engineering/Maintenance Assistant, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving warehouse facilities and equipment across our Foodstuffs North Island's distribution network.

You’ll also:

He kōrero mōu - About you

The ideal candidate will have:

• A minimum of 3+ years’ maintenance experience in facilities, factory, plant, or distribution warehouse environments (preferable)
• Strong technical skills, including maintaining warehouse equipment, MHE, batteries and chargers, and safely operating hand and power tools (Welding and Lathe skills will be an advantage)
• Basic computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office and MEX
• Vehicle licences: Car, Forklift, and Elevated Work Platforms
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, plan workloads, and consistently deliver on deadlines.
• A flexible, solutions-focused approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced 24/7 operational environment.
• Flexibility in working hours from time to time due to the 24-hour nature of our Foodstuffs operation
