Job summary

Tauranga City Council is seeking a Summer Intern in the Emergency Management team to support priority actions from the Organisational Improvement Programme and recent debriefs. You will gain hands-on experience in emergency readiness, planning, resilience, and local government operations while contributing to strategic initiatives and day-to-day activities.

You will develop research, reporting, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, working alongside dedicated professionals.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in a related field such as Emergency Management, Planning, Geography, Science, Public Policy, Risk Management, Business, Social Sciences or Graphic Design.
• Strong research and analytical abilities, excellent written communication, and high attention to detail are essential.
• Ability to organise information and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Interest in community resilience, emergency preparedness and local government; confident engaging stakeholders.
• Driver licence (NZ Class 1 preferred, restricted may be considered) and ability to work from council offices as required.
